Our heritage has its roots in the disciplined agricultural traditions of the northern parts of the Netherlands. In 1984, Bedrocan BV began specializing in the indoor cultivation of plants under standardized and controlled conditions, growing chicory, culinary herbs, potted plants and other crops. Building on this expertise, in the 1990s, we turned our focus to using the most advanced agricultural technology to develop something new: standardized, quality controlled whole-flower cannabis.

Truly Standardized Whole-Flower Cannabis

Bedrocan is the only company in the world that has the proven capability of producing standardized whole-flower medical cannabis. Through a combination of stable plant genetics and proprietary, automated, high-tech production techniques, Bedrocan has the capacity to grow varieties that contain consistent levels of cannabinoids and terpenes every time.

So, why should you care? For one, its not just about stable THC and CBD from one lot to another, but rather its about balancing over 100 active components from cannabinoids to terpenes.

Cannabinoids are the active ingredients that deliver the therapeutic effects of cannabis, the most famous of which being tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). Terpenes are the aromatic compounds that give cannabis varieties their distinctive smells and tastes, and there is also research suggesting that terpenes work synergistically with cannabinoids, modifying or enhancing their therapeutic effects in specific ways.

Standardization is the only method of ensuring that health professionals and patients can expect consistent therapeutic effect over time, allowing for accurate dosing, and proper monitoring of the product’s efficacy, safety and side effects. Only standardized products can be used for proper scientific research studies, because results can be compared over time and clear conclusions can be drawn.

Other cannabis producers may achieve a level of standardization in certain products by milling and blending varieties with different cannabinoid levels, but this process only creates equal levels of one or two target compounds (typically THC and/or CBD) – not the entire cannabinoid and terpene profile. Bedrocan can standardize cannabis plants down to the whole-flower level, with consistent cannabinoid and terpene content with the same rigour as traditional prescription medicines.

The world’s most advanced, automated cannabis production facility

Every cannabis producer regulated by the Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations is held to high standards with regards to cleanliness, testing requirements and strict pesticide and fungicide restrictions. At Bedrocan, we consider these quality assurance measures to be the baseline – a starting point.

Bedrocan Canada’s production facility incorporates the proprietary design, software and standardized production techniques developed through decades of growing experience in the Netherlands and builds on this with next generation technology, a further step beyond what is currently used at our Dutch sites.

Bedrocan’s growing rooms use state of the art environmental control technologies to control every possible variable, including light, temperature, humidity and mineral nutrients. Each of these rooms are sealed with airlock doors to prevent contact with airborne contaminants. Our production process has been specifically refined to grow standardized whole-flower cannabis, without the use of any pesticides, harvesting a fresh crop every week, 52 weeks per year, to a schedule we can predict years in advance.

Bred Over Two Decades to Serve Your Needs

Bedrocan takes the science of cannabis cultivation very seriously, and we have developed unique, proprietary processes that bring unparalleled precision to cannabis production. Each of our standardized varieties is genetically identical to the varieties we developed up to 20 years ago, having originated from one single seed per strain. Patients require access to multiple standardized varieties, with different cannabinoid and terpene profiles, to meet their different and changing needs. Each of our varieties was bred to serve this purpose.

Our plants are not reproduced from new seeds each time. Instead, they are grown by multiplying the original plant material. Bedrocan uses proprietary cloning techniques to give our varieties remarkable genetic stability, and prevent “genetic drift”, a problem resulting from repeated cloning of new mother plants, which can cause changes and weakness in the plant over time.
