For medical marijuana patients, access can be a concern, especially since the only legal source of medical marijuana is through a heavily regulated mail order system which requires licensed producers to implement stringent tracking systems and safeguards to protect packages during transport.  This process, at times, can take several days, if not more, to receive the package in the mail.  For some patients that use medical marijuana on a daily basis and have run out, this is much too long to wait.  To address this, on May 24, 2016, Aurora and Bedrocan announced that they will offer same-day delivery to registered customers.  Bedrocan would provide the service to patients living in Toronto, and Aurora would provide the service to patients living in Calgary and surrounding communities.

397x72.jpgIn a press release issued May 24, 2016, Bedrocan announced, starting Thursday May 26th, Bedrocan Canada will be offering same-day delivery to its registered customers located within Toronto (i.e., a postal code starting with "M"). Customers who place their order by noon will receive their order by 8pm on the same day, while patients ordering after noon will be able to receive their order in the morning the following day. Full details will be available shortly at www.bedrocan.ca.

"Torontonians who are seeking a reliable supply of medical cannabis can now turn to the most affordable solution in the City, delivered same-day to their door, and rest assured there is no question about the legality and origins of their cannabis supply," said Linton.  "Working with partners like Canadian Cannabis Clinics, we can ensure that any patient who requires access to doctors specializing in cannabis as a treatment, can find the support they need to access the legal system where medically appropriate."

AuroraTopNewPressImages.pngAurora Cannabis also issued a press release on May 24, 2016, in which Aurora announced, effective immediately, medical cannabis patients who are registered with Aurora can now order products Monday to Friday by noon Mountain Time (MT), and have their order delivered by or before 8:00 pm MT the same day. This service is offered to patients in the City of Calgary, as well as Airdrie, High River, Okotoks, Strathmore and Cochrane, and comes at no cost to Aurora customers. In June 2016, Aurora will extend same-day delivery to Edmonton and surrounding municipalities including Nisku, Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Spruce Grove and Fort Saskatchewan, as well as Red Deer.

Launching the same-day delivery service required Aurora's Information Technology team to develop and build customized software - unique to Aurora - that integrates with the Company's existing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, to ensure seamless order processing, inventory management, and secure delivery protocols.

"We are very proud to bring this innovative commitment to our customers, and by next month we will be able to offer same-day delivery to an area covering the majority of the population of Alberta," said Neil Belot, Chief Brand Officer. "Our objective has always been to provide the best client care in the industry, ensuring patients have fast, hassle-free access to a broad range of the highest quality cannabis products. This is yet another manifestation of the Aurora Standard, our promise to drive innovation and continuously enhance the experience of our customers."
