Aphria Inc., a producer, supplier and seller of pharma-grade medical cannabis, announced today that it has acquired a 360,000 square feet production space, located on 36 acres of land in Leamington, Ontario.  The closing of this real estate acquisition is expected to considerably increase the company's annual greenhouse growing capacity.  The completion of the project and Health Canada's approval of the space is expected to occur before the Spring of 2017, the time range Health Minister Jane Philpott announced during the UN General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS), to introduce legisation to regulated and legalize marijuana in Canada. This latest announcement adds further momentum to Aphria's ongoing expansion to prepare for the inevitable demands of a legalized marijuana marketplace.

In a press release issued July 4, 2016, President & CEO of Aphria, Vic Neufled said, "The closing of our real estate acquisition allows Aphria to aggressively move forward with our recently announced Part II expansion.  Owning our operating facilities provides Aphria significant capacity growth on the same campus address, thereby avoiding new licence applications or time-sensitive licence amendments caused by a separate site licence address. This transaction allows Aphria the flexibility to react on a more timely basis for future expansion plans based on industry evolution. With the speed of industry growth, Part III expansion is right around the corner."
