The Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS) was the only online source to buy marijuana for recreational use in Ontario, when sales commenced on October 17, the day of legalization.
According to the OCS, in the first 24 hours of operation, the online e-commerce platform received over 1.3 million unique visitors and approximately 100,000 orders from customers; 12,000 of those orders were placed in the first hour after legalization.
The OCS said, “Clearly Ontarians who choose to consume cannabis are embracing the option to purchase legal Health Canada-regulated recreational cannabis from a trusted, responsible source.”
“The OCS has been truly amazed by the volume of sales,” said OCS President Patrick Ford. “It’s way beyond what we anticipated and we appreciate customers’ patience as this exciting new business gets off the ground.”
The Ontario Cannabis Retail Corporation (OCRC), operating as the OCS is a crown corporation of the Government of Ontario. It is currently the only legal retailer of recreational marijuana in Ontario, until April 1, when the private retail model is expected to rollout in the province.
